Effective Design

Filed under: Marketing Portal — admin @ 10:20 pm

Developing new products and services rapidly and effectively is a very important skill in many businesses and the ‘decision to design’ can commit the business to hundreds of thousands of pounds and many months of work, as well as significant risk. The focus needs to be on minimising cost whilst reducing the time taken to develop the product or service and reducing the business’s risk exposure.

The problems with traditional design processes are that they occur sequentially and often involve ‘over the wall engineering’ in that one department ‘throws’ the design to the next department who then have to unpick the problems that have been designed in, often at great cost. In manufacturing companies, often the design engineers will not understand the production process and will design a product which cannot easily be made, or is too expensive, and in service companies often the marketing team will not understand in detail the operations function and will promote a product which is difficult to manage effectively - both examples of dysfunctional and sequential design.

During WWII, the need for rapid product development was recognised and the concept of Concurrent Design (CD) was born. The backbone of CD is the formation of a multi-function team consisting of designers, production, quality and test engineering personnel and key suppliers to develop a new product. This changes the cash flow profile (ie more money is spent earlier on), but can easily reduce the ‘time to market’ and post-design changes by 75% as well as reducing the actual development spend by up to 40%.

CD is a concept which is viable for both manufacturers or service sector businesses, but for manufacturers is complemented by Rapid Prototyping tools and techniques which have evolved to a new level of sophistication over the last 20 years, again reducing the time taken to receive solid models from weeks to hours and contributing to shorter development times.

Reducing time to market for new products and service can be shown to have many benefits including increased market share, longer product lifecycles and higher margins, but requires collaboration between departments and companies and the adoption of new practices and processes in the design value stream.

What is a 1031 Exchange?

Filed under: Finance News — admin @ 7:51 pm

The IRS has an exchange provision that allows you to put the extra money you make off the sale of real estate into another equal or higher value property without paying taxes on the capital gains. You can’t do this on your primary house, but you can on a beach condo or a rent house. There are some things the experts suggest you do.

Get what the IRS calls a “Qualified Intermediary.” They will charge between $500 and $1500 for the deal. They escrow the money from the time you sell to the time you buy the new property. You must trade up within 45 days of selling and close the deal within 135 days. Make sure your “QI” is bonded and insured for negligence and fraud.

Watch the details. For example, if you bought a property for $200,000 and have depreciated it out for taxes to $100,000. Now you sell it for $400,000. Think you’ll roll over $200,000? Nope. The IRS says you have to drag the depreciation with you - only $300,000 total.

Also, don’t rush to trade up. Sometimes its best just to pay the tax. Don’t end up with something worse or something that appreciates slower than what you had. Its not always a good deal.

Check out 1031.org for the Federation of Exchange Accomodators.

The Future Of Gaming Notebooks

Filed under: Hall Of Technology — admin @ 2:22 pm

The need for notebooks is skyrocketing in this point in time. Those searching for the new montevina platform could be kept waiting as manufacturers have given warning of possible shipment shortages. Regardless of credit crunches and other economic conditions laptop shipments have increased year on year and it doesn’t look to decline any time soon. Whatever you do you’re playing with technology that is changing all the time so its difficult to keep up to date.

Gaming notebooks are one of the niche markets that have seen growth. You can actually get a lot of laptop for your cash these days because even the enthusiast technology is falling into the mass market area very quickly. With the advent of dual core cpus, notebooks are worthy of gaming. Performance to one side, also worth a mention is the radically sleek case designs we are witnessing these days. Still there is a massive difference between the speed of portables and computers however desktops are more roomy to make way for unique cooling and airflow that all help. Gaming laptops are the test of performance for the notebook computer trade and it will be exciting to see how the approaching technology ranks.

Custom built notebooks have been here for a great length of time now and even though major companies peddling pre-built notebooks through shops it looks like there will forever be computer assemblers out there ready to assemble something unique to your needs. On occasions, with bigger manufacturers the reliability of the core components is not upto scratch. By being able to remove some extras from the spec you can really save cash on parts you will not use. The vast number of laptop computers are designed for the casual consumer which means you may not find what you’re searching for. This is the purpose as to why custom notebooks are around. Brands who build custom notebooks usually give a greater personal and local service too. To me this is a big plus.

It’s intriguing to see updated laptop computers hitting the market every 12 months. The amazingly low priced portables segment seems to be creating all the buzz at the moment. Its ridiculous how products designed for the third world nations have become a trend in the developed nations. These days people require slim laptop computers but they also need big screens. This is something that can be made reality even now if we forget about power. It would not shock me to see ultra light gaming notebooks in the next couple of years. I honestly can’t guess what to expect apart from those concepts spoken of. Some company formulating a product to be diverse in a saturated market.

How To Save Money On Cruises

Filed under: Better Travel — admin @ 9:00 am

1. If you’re 55 or older, you can get senior citizen discounts.

2. If you belong to American Automobile Association or American Association Of Retired Persons, you can get a discount.

3. “Buy One-Get One” fares are often offered. You buy your ticket and bring another person along for the ride. Or better yet, split the cost of the fare and you both travel at a 50% discount.

4. Added Value or Free Days. You book a 7-day cruise and get 3 days free or free shore excursions, as well as pre or post cruise hotel rooms.

5. Flat fare specials are one fixed price for the best available cabin at the time of booking.

6. Share a cabin with friends, another couple or two family members and you could easily end up cruising for free. This fare package can also be cut four ways - reducing the burden on all. You will be sleeping in head over bunks that are comfortable, so consider this strategy. Just make sure everyone gets along.

7. You should check into airfares at reduced rates offered by your cruise line to get you to your embarkation site.

8. How about an upgrade? Better cabins, discounted certificates, 10-40 percent savings off advertised prices may all be offered by your cruise line through their respective newsletters.

9. The early bird still gets the cruise, just like with the airlines. If you’re a good long-range planner, then you can save mucho dinero. The earlier you book your cruise - the more you save. Typically 10 - 40%.

10. If you belong to an association, organization, if you have a wedding party, family reunion, belong to a church group or are planning a corporate outing you can get a hefty group discount. As always, don’t be afraid to ask!

11. Stand by! Yes, it happens with cruise ships too. Typically you’re notified three weeks prior to departure if there is space. Late notice like this means you get a nice discount fare.

Bonus Tip:
Did you know that the best cabins to avoid seasickness in are the lower and middle deck cabins? There is more stability here than the pricey upper cabins! Just make sure you’re not placed under the Disco, in high traffic areas, or near the engine room. Diesel powered ships vibrate near the stern (rear) of the ship and passenger cabins near the bow (front) may subject you to hearing the anchor raise and lower.

Sending Documents Through Email? Don’t Get Burned by Metadata!

Filed under: Managers Corner — admin @ 9:20 pm

During a recent seminar I gave located in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I discussed something called, “metadata”. When I asked whether anyone ever heard of metadata, I was confronted with blank stares. This is exactly why I decided to write here about what it is and how it can impact your company.

Metadata is information that exists in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. Metadata is simply “data about data”, and your electronic documents probably contain lots of it. Metadata describes document attributes such as the title, author, content, location, and date of creation.

Knowing this information can be helpful when cataloging electronic information. But metadata can also share confidential and potentially embarrassing information with an unintended audience. Would you want a potential customer of yours finding out historical data regarding the original author of the document you sent them? How many times it was edited? Who was editing the document? It’s possible….especially if you are a user of the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word.

So I’m sure all of you are thinking, “How do I keep this information from leaving the company?” One option for you is to pdf documents with a pdf creator program before sending it. A good free pdf creator is PDF995. You can download it for free at http://www.pdf995.com.

There are enterprise level programs on the market that will clean this information from documents too if you’d prefer to just clean the document before you send it to someone. A good program to use is called Metadata Protect, by a company called Workshare. Metadata Protect allows corporations to set global policies on their computer network to lower the risk of dangerous metadata leaving the company.

How To Consolidate Debt and Be Successful in Life.

Filed under: Credit + Cash — admin @ 4:51 pm

How to change your life and your bad habits to go beyond debt, and discover new trends to live the life you deserve…

What is Debt Consolidation? Debt consolidation consist to take out one loan from a debt consolidation service in order to pay multiple loans or bills like credit card bills, or other student loans.

For several reasons, it is not recommended. Debt Consolidation companies offers sound exciting, but many end up costing you much more than you think you earned. The major problem is that you may be tempted to use your credit card even more, simply because you rely on these companies and unconsciously, you spend and drag out your credit card and you don’t mind.

What is their goal, and what they will never tell you?
First you should know that they don’t have any interest in giving people the right advice, as their main revenue is from people like you, I mean people in debt.

What you should understand is that the ultimate goal of these debt consolidation services is not to help you, but their real purpose is to make money.

Well it is a good purpose, make money. The truth is that there is nothing wrong with that, and we all need money to live. But why make money with you when you need help?

These companies are playing on the psychologic side, they know that you have no choice and that you got to avoid bankruptcy, so you finish at their offices…

You may be asking yourself, why so much people are turning to these companies? If so many people are going there, it should not be a problem.

Well, I was working as a financial advisory, and do you know what was my first task when I come to my office at 7.30 am? No, how in the world would you know?
My first task was: take the phone, and call people who were delinquent with their account, people who did not paid their debts in time.
Most of the time, those people were still sleeping when I rang them! But I got to do it, because the system is like that.

The main reason is that people can’t afford the following: credit harassment, foreclosures, repossessions, tax levies and garnishment, bankruptcy, or loose their house… and family. They got no choice.

Vintage Saxophones

Filed under: Music Stuff — admin @ 10:27 am

A saxophone is a musical instrument belonging to the woodwind category. It is one of the youngest musical instruments, invented by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian, in the 1840s. Later, many people made their own alterations to the instrument. Saxophones were generally used in the military and in big orchestras but are now found in smaller bands as well. They are generally used for big band music, pop music and jazz. There are many kinds of saxophones but the four most common ones are: Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone saxophones.

Vintage saxophones may not be in great playing condition, but are generally bought for collection purposes. Some suppliers also sell vintage saxophones that are repaired and in good condition. They can also be custom-restored to suit individual requirements. Some manufacturers offer one-year guarantees on restored saxophones.

Otherwise, vintage saxophones are sold in “as is” condition to retain their original and antique value. Vintage saxophones can have frills like hand engravings on them. They are also generally gold- or silver-plated instead of being lacquered like the new saxophones.

Here is a sampling of the vintage saxophones available at one dealer: King - super 20 and zephyr; Selmer - mark VII, mark VI, super balanced action, balanced action, super, radio improved, and cigar cutter; Buescher - true tone, aristocrat, and 400 top hat and cane; Conn - Chu Berry, conqueror (26 and 30M), and lady face (4M, 6M, 10M, and 12M); Martin - handcraft, magna and committee.

Vintage saxophones can be found at local music stores or in antique shops. They can also be found by browsing some special sites on the Internet, which provides hundreds of choices in vintage saxophones. However, some Internet dealers sell fake vintage saxophones. Some suppliers of vintage saxophones offer certificates of guarantee, or even warranties.

Saxophones provides detailed information about saxophones, jazz saxophones, soprano saxophones, alto saxophones and more. Saxophones is the sister site of Violins Web.

Several Easy Ways to Make More Money in Network Marketing

Filed under: Marketing Portal — admin @ 10:37 pm

You don’t have to fret! With these easy network marketing tips, you can revitalize your sales pitch and methods in no time at all!

1. Contacts
Remember that your contacts are your most valuable asset. Who are your contacts? The people you see on the streets? Your next door neighbor?

When considering whom to invite, try those closest to you first. This is because they are most likely to be more open to your suggestions and will be willing to do you a few favors (such as buying that detergent you are hawking). The great thing about this is that they will really mind plunking a few bucks to help jumpstart your business. And when they see that you are doing well, they could very well join you as well.

When you run through the whole list of you clan, what will that leave you with? You will of course have to go to those people that next in line with regards to closeness or affinity to you. And what if that gives out too?

You can always adopt a friendlier stance and chat up that neighbor you never talked to. You could meet new people on the bus and on the train. But remember, you have to like them as people first. Don’t go about and look at them like walking piggy banks. People will know if they are being looked upon as ‘things.’ Always regard them highly and get to know them. Build their trust. The truth is, the friendships you build will be the true reward, and the sales will be just a side dish.

Always ask for referrals from your contacts. This is another sure way to increase your prospects.

2. Believe
If you yourself do not believe in your product, chances are you won’t be able to sell it to others. Remember, nothing promotes a product better that a satisfied customer. Let others see you using the product. Say glowing things about it. And most of all, let all that you say be true. If your customer finds out you weren’t being honest, you could ruin your business relationship.

When you choose a network business, take into consideration their product. See if you can believe in it and pitch for it effectively.

3. Recruit the right people
Don’t just recruit anybody. Make sure the people you recruit share an unbridled passion, and tireless work ethic with like you. If you don’t chances are, they will drop out of the networking business and you will not be able to build your downline.

4. Don’t force the issue
When trying to close a sale, don’t force the issue. If you do, people will get suspicious as to why you are doing so. Are selling them counterfeit items? Are you only interested in your profit and not in your customer’s satisfaction? Always keep this in mind: the customer always comes first. Please them, and the profits and windfall from these relationships will follow.

5. Look the part
When recruiting others, you can’t say, “You will get rich with network marketing,” and look shabby all the while. They’d say, “I thought you got rich from this thing, why do you look like you didn’t.” People will want to see a visible sign of success. You are their only reference point. If you are not convincing as a successful networking agent,

6. Hang in there
Perseverance is a virtue. If money grew on trees, you’d still have to wait for them to grow. Remember the old adage: try and try, until you succeed. Remember that your goal is not to just to get money, but to build upon a good income generating business.

7. Evolve
Don’t be satisfied thinking that your techniques at recruiting will forever be effective. Although there are basic principles that should be followed, you can forever improve on your techniques. Today’s society is constantly evolving. If you want to catch up with them, you have to evolve in your marketing strategies as well.

Try ‘Em
Try these tips. They are sure to give you more confidence in your network marketing strategy!

Uber Company - The Bill Gates’ Executive Dream Team Reality Show

Filed under: Business — admin @ 10:55 am

Following the success of Donald Trump’s The Apprentice, a sixteen week job interview reality show where Trump hires someone to manage one of his companies, I came to think that business reality shows can be truly successful. What if we were to create the ultimate business reality show? What would that look like? What I would like to see is the greatest business minds of our time come together on television to create a brand new Uber Company (”Uber” is derived from the German language and has come to be a synonym for “super”), a company that, with the guidance of some great business executives, an executive dream team, becomes a “super” company - a company that is super profitable with a rate of growth unseen in our generation.

If we put the greatest business minds of our time together to build a brand new company, would it be one of the most successful companies ever? Or, would there be such a clash of egos that it would be doomed to failure. This is imaginary, so I guess we would never know. But imagination is a good thing. So, I decided to be the cast director and have put together my own executive dream team. Here it is:

Bill Gates - President & CEO: Should the most successful person in the world be the leader? How do you decide who is the most successful person in the world? If we go by net worth, then it is Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft. Maybe he doesn’t have the greatest leadership skills, but he is the most successful. He is my choice to lead the executive dream team.

Edward Lampert - Vice President: I wanted someone young to be second in command. At age 43, Lampert is a self-made billionaire and Chairman of ESL Investments.

Donny Deutsch - Director of Advertising: With his Madison Avenue ad agency he is one of the most successful advertising experts ever. And, with his own CNBC talk show, The Big Idea, who better than to fill this role. After all, the executive dream team will definitely need a big idea to make Uber Company a success.

Jay Conrad Levinson - Director of Marketing: The father of Guerrilla Marketing, Jay Conrad Levinson, will be in charge of the marketing department.

Richard Branson - Director of Public Relations: Branson, founder of the Virgin group of companies, is the expert in generating free publicity. Recently his company ran an advertising campaign in Canada which used nurses as sex objects; this upset the Canadian Nurses Association and garnered so much free publicity. Not only that, he is master of publicity stunts such as dangling himself from a crane in New York City at the launch of Virgin Mobile USA. Perhaps, this group would not even need to seek free publicity. Having a business group like this get together would naturally attract media interest.

Mark Cuban - VP of Public Relations: Mark Cuban already has reality show experience with last year’s show The Benefactor. Plus, he already has a popular blog, Blog Maverick, that he can use as an online public relations tool.

Donald Trump - Director of Human Resources: What? Director of Human Resources? Donald Trump is a real estate mogul; he has no human resources experience. Yes, but he has experience hiring and firing people (you’re fired). I just hope he doesn’t try to fire Mark Cuban.

Pierre Omidyar - Software Developer: Pierre Omidyar is the creator of one of the biggest, most profitable, and most popular websites ever - eBay. He is my best choice for software developer.

Zig Ziglar - Senior Sales Rep: The father of the hard sell, Zig Ziglar, we’ll need to put his sales lead generation strategies and sales closing techniques to work to SELL SELL SELL!

Oprah Winfrey - Customer Service Rep: I don’t believe Oprah has any customer service experience. But, we need someone for customer service and Oprah, as successful as she is, would be successful at anything she does.

So there you have it, my executive dream team for Uber Company. Ten successful business professionals and entrepreneurs working together on a common project. This would be reality TV at its finest.
