Supreme Skiing Conditions All over the Alps

Filed under: Better Travel, Great Sports Tips, Hall Of Recreation — admin @ 1:00 am

There has been just about two meters snowfall during the last week. The snowfall has been so heavy that chairlifts have been closed, the funicular has been stopped at the Chamonix station and not traveling to Switzerland. Several roads were shut and weather warnings published.

Compare this to 2 winters past, with the unbelievably mild Jan conditions, rocks showing on the ski slopes, and reports that climate change meant the finish of skiing in Europe. Highlighting this the OECDs study from winter 2006 admonished that global warming would make snowboarding too dear for many holiday makers, with one-third of ski towns going bust with the disappearance of alpine glaciers. Experts assert that it is nearly impossible to ascribe these seasonal deviations in the weather to the off shoots of climate change.

So we may be experiencing the deepest downturn in 25 years, and the Sterling has plummeted to new levels compared to the Euro, but the snow is exceptional, and the last bookings highlight that people are keen to take of advantage of the great skiing conditions and our luxury chalets are all occupied. It is undoubtedly the greatest in seven winter seasons, and many are stating that it is the finest ski snowboarding snow in at least ten years.

However think that this amount of snow means high avalanches risks.
